applications for the following assignment:

Educational Counselor/Play Art Therapist
East Three Elementary School, Inuvik, NT
Start Date: August 27, 2018

The Beaufort Delta Education Council actively promotes:

• Strong communication, interpersonal and team building skills

Candidates must have a Bachelor of Education Degree and a Masters of Education (Counselling) and be eligible for a Northwest Territories Teaching Certificate. Preference will be given to candidates with training and experience in Art Therapy, Expressive Arts Therapy, and/or Play Therapy, to those with training and experience in treating acute and complex trauma, and to those who have previously worked in a cross-cultural environment.

The following criteria will be important considerations in the hiring process:

• Provide developmentally appropriate service to promote healthy social and emotional growth and address mental health concerns for students ages 4 – 12;
• Administer a referral, assessment, and consent process;
• Develop treatment plans;
• Provide short and long term in-depth treatment through individual and group counselling sessions;
• Provide crisis intervention and follow-up, as needed;
• Research issues and strategies, as needed;
• Work collaboratively with the School Based Support Team;
• Consult with school personnel, parents, and other professionals on student needs and provide advocacy where needed;
• Liaise with other service providers and community organizations;
• Make appropriate referrals to additional services;
• Promote learning about mental health and wellness among students, staff, and families;
• Create and maintain confidential counselling records;
• Report progress to school administrators;
• Write reports, as needed;
• Develop and manage resources, as needed;
• Maintain the counselling program facility and equipment;
• Adhere to the standards of practice and code of ethics of the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association and the Northwest Territories Teachers’ Association

The following criteria will be important considerations in the hiring process:

Equivalent combinations of education and/or experience will be considered.

Salary is pro-rated dependent on verified education and experience (ranging from $79,386 to $128,166 per annum) plus an annual pro-rated Northern Allowance based on the NWTTA Collective Agreement.
