A grade JK-12 Program Support Teacher (PST) is required for Mezi Community School. The PST will play an active leadership role on the School-Based Support Team (SBST) providing guidance and assistance in inclusive practices to the school principal, other SBST members, teachers and education assistants.

The TCSA embraces a philosophy of continuing professional learning and growth specifically tied to high levels of student learning and achievement. Candidates must be prepared to engage in ongoing collaborative practice and professional dialogue about their instructional, assessment, and reporting practices insofar as it reflects levels of student learning. Active and positive participation in Professional Learning Communities at Work are a required approach to ongoing professional growth in our region. As an Instructional PST you will be required to work cohesively with other members of the school leadership team to implement, and participate in, successful PLCs at Work within the school.

The candidate will focus on supporting and working directly with classroom teachers in an active and sustained manner to meet the needs of all students throughout the year. A large portion of the PSTs time will be spent collecting and analyzing various data to inform teacher coaching in the areas of program planning, instructional practice, formative and summative assessment, and developing and implementing effective Student Support and Individual Education Plans.

While the candidate will be working with teachers to support the needs of students in the classroom this individual must also be flexible and organized to advocate for specific needs of individual students in the areas of emotional, social and behavioural development. This applicant will be knowledgeable in tiered response to intervention (RTI) for students who are not achieving success in school and will work collaboratively with other members of the SBST to guide the development and implementation of a systemic tiered intervention model within the school.

The PST will have duties in working with support staff, collaborating with outside specialist service-providers, work collaboratively with families, be knowledgeable in NWT curriculum and related research, and be able to provide appropriate documentation/reports when required.

The ideal applicant will be an educator with cross-cultural experience and who has a strong commitment to community, students and a cross-cultural team environment. The appropriate candidate will be prepared to actively support oral language and vocabulary development, all precursor skills required for successful reading and writing development, and culture-based integrated education. The successful candidate will also have experience successfully developing self-regulation strategies and techniques in students at the intermediate level.

To be a successful PST the applicant will have been an excellent classroom teacher, be comfortable in providing ongoing feedback to teachers as a student-centered coach, be knowledgeable about reading processes, language acquisition, assessment and instruction, be an excellent presenter and be able to lead teacher teams to reflection and change.
