Kivalliq School Operations invites applications for the following position:

Teacher, Simon Alaittuq School, Rankin Inlet, Nunavut

This position will include a Student Support Teacher assignment.

The status of this position is: Term

The position is 1.0 PY (full-time position.)

School Description: Simon Alaittuq School has a population of approximately 110 students in a grade 5 - 6 setting with a staff of 18.

Required qualifications:

• Bachelor of Education degree (Special Education Certificate/degree or equivalent courses)
• Eligible for Nunavut Teaching Certificate
• Experience developing and implementing individual student support and behaviour plans in cooperation with classroom teachers
• Experience programming and supervising student support assistants in programs supporting profound needs.
• Minimum of three years’ experience in the role of special education/student support teacher

Desired qualifications:

• Evidence / experience building positive relationships with students, colleagues, parents, stakeholders
• Experience in developing and implementing individual education plans for students with exceptionalities in a collaborative context
• Experience in collaborative support to students in the effective implementation of formative assessment and differentiated instruction
• Experience with formative and summative assessment implementation, reporting and analysis
• Experience planning, directing, facilitating and/or reviewing workshops and professional development modules for adult learners
• Experience in modeling and/or leading professional learning communities
• Teaching experience in an ESL environment
• Cross-cultural and/or northern teaching experience

Please note: Government housing may be provided and sharing may be required.

Salary and Nunavut Northern Allowance: The salary for certified teachers ranges from $75,006.00 prorated/annum to $117,609.00 prorated/annum The Northern Allowance for Rankin Inlet is $18, 517.00 prorated/annum.

Applicants currently employed by the Government of Nunavut to be appointed to this position must hold a valid Nunavut teaching certificate.

Before final appointment to the new position, external applicants must submit a current Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) that are dated no more than six months prior to the position start date, as indicated on the competition posts. Applicants will be required to provide an acceptable CRC and VSC before a written offer will be made.

Prior to final appointment, applicants who have taken their teacher training outside of Nunavut must include a copy of their current public school teaching certificate from a jurisdiction recognized by the Nunavut Department of Education.
