The Position: Reporting to the Dean, Kenanow of Education, the Access Coordinator provides academic and operation leadership for community-based Prep for PSE, Foundations for College (former GSNP) and other upgrading and pathway programs at UCN. The Coordinator will facilitate the delivery of the Mature High School Diploma, in conjunction with the Director of the ALC. The Coordinator is accountable for ensuring the provision of high quality adult learning opportunities, preparing learners to reach their academic and career goals. Specific responsibilities include faculty and staff development and supervision, strategic and operation planning, program development with Industry, business, all levels of government, associations and educational institutions and forging effective relationship with college academic leaders and community partners.

Qualifications:
A bachelor of education degree and a Manitoba teaching certificate (or equivalent)
A minimum of five years teaching experience directly with Indigenous peoples
A minimum of three years’ experience in adult education principles and program delivery
A minimum of three years’ experience in a rural or remote community with Indigenous people
Experience leading and coaching staff in program delivery
Familiarity with the challenges in Indigenous education delivery and achieving success
Ability to plan for programming with limited infrastructure or resources (internet, childcare etc.) Demonstrated ability to understand and to deal with issues specific to Aboriginal learners and mature students in northern communities
Personal experience and/or knowledge and understanding of the Aboriginal culture

Assets:
A minimum of three years’ experience in a non-conventional educational setting (community, off campus, workplace or Access learning site.)
A Master’s degree in adult education, community development, Indigenous curriculum or related field
Direct experience with non-traditional, high unemployment students or communities
Experience in an academic upgrading, college or university preparatory program
Experience working with industry and employers to assess and train potential work force team The ability to speak an Aboriginal language

Conditions of Employment:
Candidates must be legally entitled to work in Canada
Ability to travel across northern Manitoba for days or weeks at a time
