EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY 1 year contract position: Grade 5/6 Teacher
Required: August 27, 2018- August 23, 2019
(With possibility of extension)
Ontario College of Teachers (OCT) member in good standing and / or Aboriginal Teacher Education Program (ATEP);
Minimum of one year teaching experience or equivalent.
Experience working within a First Nation education system would be an asset.
Knowledge of First Nation culture, traditions and language would be an asset.
Current First Aid/CPR certification.
Computer literate in various software and programs (smart board, I-pad, Elmo, etc.).
Current and clear Vulnerable Sector Search satisfactory to WRFN.
Develops lesson plans and manages learning experiences, classroom management, and balanced literacy blocks, curricular and extra-curricular to ensure that the needs of the class and individual students are met.
Identifies, selects and modifies instructional resources and according to school expectation to meet the needs of the students with varying backgrounds, learning styles and special needs.
Provides a positive learning environment which will lead to maximum learning opportunities for each student through differentiated learning, peer collaboration and individual instructions.
Communicates effectively, both orally and in writing, with students, parents and other professionals on a regular basis.
Collaborates positively with peers and parents to enhance the instructional environment.
Models professional and ethical standards (Ontario College of Teachers) when dealing with students, parents, peers and community.
Ensures that student growth and achievement is continuous and appropriate for age group, subject area and classification.
Participates in implementing, planning and evaluation of the school program/curriculum/First Nation Curriculum and program development.
To inspire students to develop pride in their ancestral language and culture and motivate them to use it in communicating throughout the school, within the curriculum subject areas and in their daily lives.
Maintains necessary records (electronically) for inclusion in the studentsĺ OSR and utilizes data to modify, improve and drive instruction and program effectiveness.
Conducts parent conferences, IEP, and a variety of other meetings with other staff, parents and students.
Provides for and promotes the care and protection of students and school property.
Ensures that students get maximum use of equipment, materials, supplies used under their direction.
Assumes responsibility for meeting their long-range plans, student-wide performance goals, and assessment for, as and of learning.
Meets professional obligations through efficient work habits such as: meeting deadlines, honoring schedules and coordinating activities.
Demonstrates gains in student performance through techniques as set out by Principal/or designate/WRFN.
Participates fully in training/professional development/extracurricular activities and community events evenings and weekends as required/directed.
Attends staff meetings and maintains files as required.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal or designate.
