Kitikmeot School Operations invites applications for the following position: Cultural Inclusion Teacher

Grade: 7-12

The closing date for this competition is open until filled

Start Date: August 7, 2018
End Date: June 4, 2019


The status of this position is: TERM

The position is 0.5 PY (half-time position.)

School Description: Qiqirtaq Ilihakvik is a grade 7-12 school with a population of 180 students and 23 staff.

Required qualifications:

• Fluent in English and Inuktitut both oral and written
• Worked in a high school school classroom previously or taken a course/courses towards teacher education
• Must be eligible for an Interim Language/Cultural Specialist Certificate

Desired qualifications:

• Camping experience (land trips that may include overnight camping)
• Willing to engage students outside of the classroom
• Experience and / or training with current assessment methods
• Evidence of differentiated instruction and inclusive practices
• Experience and / or training in classroom management practices and the development of positive learning environments (eg. Restitution, Tribes, Positive Effective Behavior Supports, etc.)
• Cross-cultural and/or northern teaching experience
• Evidence of training and / or experience in the area of Balanced Literacy
• Training and / or teaching experience in an English Language Learner (ELL) environment
• Evidence / experience building positive relationships with students, colleagues, parents, stakeholders

Please note: Subsidized housing is available but sharing may be required.

The salary for an Aboriginal Language Certificate holder ranges from $31,233 prorated/annum. to $37,696 prorated/annum. Language allowance, dependant on testing qualifications of $750 to $2,500 prorated/annum.

The Northern Allowance for Gjoa Haven is $13,172.50 prorated/annum.
