Shamattawa First Nation is located along the north shore where the God's and Echoing Rivers intersect. The community is 1277 kilometres north of Winnipeg and 365 kilometres east by air from Thompson. The First Nation community is home to 1500 people whose language is Cree. The community is remote and isolated, with accessibility only by air and seasonal winter road. The new 43 million dollar school opened it's doors January 18th, 2016 - Nursery to Grade 12.
Hunting for moose, caribou and geese are popular events in the community. There is a variety of fish such as Northern Pike, Whitefish, Sturgeon and Brook Trout. The Spring and Fall are beautiful times of the year and Winter is great for snow sports, etc... but can get quite cold (-40). The community celebrates traditional Treaty Days in late June, this is always an enjoyable event. Come and Experience the North !!!
Applicants must have or be eligible for a valid Manitoba Teaching Certificate.
