Seabird Island Community School, situated 130 kilometers east of Vancouver in the Fraser Valley is seeking to fulfill the above teaching assignment

Seabird Island Community School is seeking to fill the position of a Learning Assistance/Special Education teacher. We believe that all students can learn and the role of the LA/SE Teacher is to assist classroom teachers to help all students reach their potential.
Qualifications/Requirements: Bachelor Degree in Education with specialization in Special Education.
Must be a B.C. Certified Teacher
Significant experience as a Special Education Teacher and/or setting up Special Education programs.
Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in addressing a wide range of academic, social, emotional and behavioral needs of children.
Excellent classroom management, behavioral management and organizational skills
Training and experience in successfully using a variety of resources to teach children with special needs.
Maintains and promotes working relationships with community professionals.
Participates in the ongoing planning, development and extension of services.
Collaborating with teachers to develop more effective strategies to work with special needs students.
Willingness to contribute to a positive school culture by volunteering in extracurricular activities.
High professional and ethical standards
Valid BC Drivers license
Primary Responsibilities: Meet with teachers to come up with a plan to meet educational, behavioural and social goals outlined in the students IEP, collaborate with classroom teachers on how to best meet the needs of all students
Provide colleagues with specific strategies and interventions relating to behavior, social skills, and academic development that will help students be successful
Preparing EA schedules for intensive intervention list and organizing materials for pull-outs, meet with EAs monthly to check-in on how interventions are going
Prepare for data meetings and sharing of data to staff
Check new student files for psych ed or speech assessments and update word document of when these students should be re-assessed
Review new psych Eds, highlight important information, share with teacher and administration, review with parents and send a copy home
Meet with speech/language pathologist to determine and review care plans for speech/language support, send out parent consent forms
Review Assessments monthly to determine if students are in appropriate ability level groups
New Student Assessments in the following areas:
o Reading Mastery
o Corrective Reading
o Saxon Math
Ordering reading, math and CAT4, special ed materials/supplies materials for the following year
Organize CAT4 booklets and scheduling for testing, sending away documents to CTC
Re-arrange Reading and Math groups to best place students in their appropriate ability level groups, throughout the year and yearly
Enter Benchmarking scores into Dibels.net. Update Dibels.net with all new students, move students from last year over to their new class and grade for this year, add teachers to dibels.net
