Do you hold expertise, experience and interest in the education of students who are deaf? Consider bringing your professional expertise to the Provincial and Demonstration Schools Branch. Currently there is an exciting career opportunity available on an as required basis at our schools in Belleville, Milton and London, which serve deaf students in a residential school setting at both the elementary and secondary school levels.

• PSB17-117- Teachers of the Deaf- Ernest C. Drury School- Milton

• PSB17-118- Teachers of the Deaf- Robarts School for the Deaf- London

➢ Primary/Junior/Intermediate and/or Senior division qualifications required

You will:

• Provide individual/group programs of instruction for deaf children;
• Plan individual program needs as well as diagnosis and prescriptive teaching;
• Provide regular communication to parents regarding school and classroom activities;
• Participate in professional development activities.

What we are looking for:

Qualifications:

• Valid Certificate of Registration and Qualifications from the Ontario College of Teachers;
• Specialist of the Deaf/Teaching Students Who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing ASL/LSQ Communication Specialist or actively pursuing (minimum Part 1 required);
• Primary/Junior/Intermediate and/or Senior division qualifications required;
• Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL).

Abilities:
• Ability to teach deaf/hard of hearing students in academic programs and programs for students with multiple exceptionalities;
• Ability to develop/modify lesson plans, create IEPs to successfully teach Deaf students;
• Ability to apply an in-depth knowledge of the principles of teaching Deaf students;
• Ability to effectively manage a classroom and students using a variety of behavioural management techniques;
• Ability to write and present education materials and lesson plans using excellent interpersonal and communication skills including proficiency in English;
• Knowledge of Bilingual/Bicultural philosophy;
• Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team and working with students with multi exceptionalities.
